An Operating System is the fundamental software which controls a computer. It handles how the hardware functions, the communication with peripheral devices for instance a monitor, a printer or a keyboard, the allocation of memory between applications, as well as the prioritization of applications if multiple ones run concurrently. Each program which is installed on a computer works by sending requests to the OS for various services via an application program interface (API). The interaction with the OS can be done via a Graphical User Interface (GUI) or a command line. In the hosting field, the OS is what runs a server along with any software installed on it, which includes not only website scripts, but, in addition any other application for example a VOIP or a game server. In case there are virtual machines created, they use a guest OS that is run on the server host OS.
Multiple OS in VPS Servers
Our VPS server packages feature three Linux distributions which you may select from for the Operating System of your new web server - Debian, Ubuntu and CentOS. In addition to being absolutely free, the OSs are very stable and secure and the reason to offer all three of them is to make sure that you'll be able to run any application that you would like, as different pieces of software may have different requirements when it comes to the environment they can be used on. Each of the three OSs is supported by a large community of developers who have generated many hundreds of software packages that you can install and use on your VPS. Based on the Operating System which you choose, you will also be able to select between three different Control Panels to take care of your website hosting content. Needless to say, should you decide that you need another OS, we can always re-install the server with it. As an additional upgrade, we also offer weekly updates of the Operating System for optimum stability and security.
Multiple OS in Dedicated Servers
The dedicated server packages that we offer come with three different Operating Systems to pick from. They are all Linux distributions - Ubuntu, CentOS and Debian, and not only do they have no license fees, but they’re also known as the most stable and risk-free OSs. We offer three different ones since each one of them is backed by a separate community. The packages which you could add on your server are different and this may matter in case you want to install some piece of software with specific requirements regarding the hosting environment. In this light, the hosting Control Panel that you can select for the dedicated server is also determined by the OS that you'll choose. You may choose any of the three Operating Systems throughout the order procedure, however if needed, we can always install the server once again with another one upon your request. As an optional service that you may add to the package at any moment, we can update the OS on a regular basis to keep it as secure as possible.
